Second Annual Women's Tea Party

Holidays are big in my family.

When my husband joined the family he was constantly learning that no Johnson Family Holiday was complete without a long list of traditions. At Christmas there is the interpretive reading of the Nativity story, the cookie decorating contest, and the pajamas on Christmas Eve. The Fourth of July is known for homemade ice cream, sparkler races around the house and the biggest water fights you have ever seen. The egg hunt on Easter continues to grow every year, and is now at the point where we get coupons in the plastic eggs that can be redeemed for gift cards and movies.

We have recently added another event in our family, and that is the Annual Women’s Tea. All of the women from our family are invited, and that results in a wonderful mix of ages and personalities. As you can probably guess from the picture above, last year's theme was "Pretty In Pink". This year's theme is “A Garden Tea Party”. I thought I would share some of the details as my mom and I plan this year’s event.

Here is the linen that we’re thinking of using. It’s a fun bright color that would be perfect for a summer afternoon. This linen is from Choice Linens located here in Seattle.

Since the theme is a "Garden Tea Party" we've been trying to find creative ways to bring nature and the garden to the table top. Martha has some great ideas this month. I love the simplicity of the moss and stones.

The Astilbe gives such a punch of color while still maintaining a natural elegance. I love the idea of using vintage bottles to display single stems of flowers. This is perfect if you have a variety of mismatched glass bottles and containers laying around.

There will be more to come and we plan more of the details of this memorable event!
